Personal Statement
Have Talent. Will Travel
I am not your typical athlete. I am a unique player and person who has a thirst for continuous improvement. A word that describes me…. impact. As a defensive lineman of my size and speed, I will certainly disrupt QBs’ original intentions upon impact. But more importantly, how can I impact my future with football; how can I impact colleagues by my actions; how can I impact my community with my leadership? During my first season of high school football (as a freshman) I was consistent in my message to the seniors. I finally appreciated what it meant to impact with not just my body, but my mentality. The upperclassmen had the talent, but some struggles despite being part of our small-town football dynasty. I was able to narrow a focus that only my honeybee hives would recognize. Ultimately, we did win the state championship, and I was a part of that push for excellence. I was impactful, even as a freshman.
My grandparents would tell you I’m mature beyond my years because of my music selections, cultural tolerability, creative writing techniques and theatrical decisions. In all honesty, football shaped much of that maturity as well. Being able to maintain speed, control my position under heavy pressure and adapt against any player on the field is a skill I’m mastering in football. That skillset has helped me in the classroom and on stage as well. I truly hope to complete my college years with joy and productivity while being a respectful young adult to positively impact my team and community.
