Football has not only been an activity to participate in but has served as a mentor in life for me. Mentors support, advise, and guide you and that is exactly what being a part of a football team has done for me. It has supported me by helping me realize that I can accomplish anything that I set my mind to if I put in the work and have grit. My football coaches give me advise that I will forever carry with me like taking ownership, keep a positive attitude, and to not make excuses for your failures- just get back up and try again. Being a part of my team, especially playing in the trenches of the O-line, has taught me to be selfless. It has also taught me to be strategic and manage my time wisely. Juggling athletics, academics, working part-time, and family time is made me realize how to prioritize. Being a part of a team is priceless. Being a part of the track team and competing in shot put has taught me a whole other side of being an athlete as well. In football, we stand together as a band of brothers but in shot put events, you are front and center on stage by yourself. If something goes wrong, there is no one to take that fault or success but yourself. This has made be gain even more ownership and responsibility.
In April 2023 I received a special invite to the Six Star All America Game. In January 2023, I was honored to receive OL MVP at the Oklahoma Stock-up Showcase. In 2021, the year that we won the Oklahoma 5A-4 State Championship, I was honored during our football awards banquet for being one of the main O-line components, the brick walls. Even though I was the only sophomore amongst the seniors to be recognized. I also received "Dirtbag of the Week" in all but maybe two weeks during our season in 2022 which is the player who is the most down and dirty lineman for each game.
I am also the oldest of three kids and my younger siblings, who are 13 and 6. Since they were both little, I have helped with caring for them throughout their life. My parents always knew that they could rely on me to make sure that things were taken care of and that no matter what I would make sure that my siblings were safe. My friends used to call me the "dad" of our group because they all knew that I would be the one who would make the responsible decisions. To this day, when other people are out to party or goof around, I will be found at the gym, supporting one of our school sporting events, at home with my family, or studying.
I pride myself on leading my team this off-season by coordinating work-out sessions either at the gym or on the field with several of my teammates. I want to assure that we not only have the skills we need but the culture of teamwork, too. Team building is important. this is why I have been named team captain for the 2023-2024 season. I also lead the student section at our high school basketball games. In school, I have focused in so much on my grades that I have made a dramatic improvement in my grades over the last two years. My dedication to my grades is something that I know I will make a priority now and going forward as well. I have an interest in obtaining a degree in either business or high school education and athletic coaching.
