When I was in the ninth grade, I was going through a rough time in my life and on the path to being a huge failure. The biggest setback occurred when I failed off the football team. That was the first year our high school had been to the state championship in about twenty years. From the bleachers, I watched with sadness as my friends played in the state championship game. Disappointed with myself, I sat down with my father, and he asked me a question that made me consider the long-term consequences of my actions. He asked where I saw myself in five years, and I could not give him a response. Honestly, I did not know what to say, but he did. He warned me that if I continued with this path of self-destruction, I would be dead or in jail; I would have no future at all. I thought about what he said and realized that I had not considered the long-term effects of my actions. When I sat down and truly thought about my future, I knew that being successful would require making some major changes in my life. When I returned to school, I sat at the front of the class, changed the people I chose to associate with, and began taking life more seriously. After the first semester, I saw a major improvement, and I am so grateful for my dad. He helped me realize that if I wanted a successful future, I had to change paths. After going through those trials and tribulations I have come out of them as a better person. I know what I want in life and part of that is to play college football.
