Joseph Valles '12 Recruiting Profile

Hi my name is Joseph Valles . . but you already know that from looking at my profile.  I am currently a senior at Coronado High School in El Paso, Texas.  Our football team just finished a 4 - 7 season.  Needless to say, this season wasn't a shining star on our head coach's office.  I have played varsity football for 2 years and have started for two years.  My junior year I started center then heading into my senior year I was moved to left tackle.  As a center my high school football team went 8 - 4 also I was a partial leader to the quarterback on plays where the direction of the ball was decided on the line.  This year I played tackle because I had more physical prowess than the would-have-been tackle.  Coach decided to move me because we had a center come up from junior varsity that could have been considered a copy of me but without my superior physical ability.  I was definitely not the ideal weight of a left tackle or an offensive linemen for that matter.  I currently weigh 220, I run a 5.0, i'm 6'2".  My goal for football after high school is not to play offensive linemen but as a defensive player.  My frame is just the right size, i think, for a defensive position.  The one time during my high school football career that I got to play defense was during a playoff game for a 3rd down goal line stop.  I played nose tackle on that play  not a linebacker or defensive end.  I try to be as realistic as possible and football is one of those things.  I obviously don't have the speed or size for the likes of a D1 school so football is something I do because I love the sport.  I give 100% all the time.  I played on my scout team as well as my offensive position.  I've looked at players like Dez Bryant and Michael Crabtree and understood that they have always had the skill to compete and be better than the competition.  Their ability is inborn opposed to mine that I have had to nurture up to my current status.  However, any coach can count on me wanting to go hard, wanting to run the extra mile, and just wanting it overall.    If football doesn't work out I would like to major in Mechanical Engineering.  I have always liked to work with my hands whether it be putting a toy back together to rebuilding a 8 valve Edelbrach engine (i think that's how you spell the brand name).  The engine went to my neighbor's dragster, he currently holds multiple track records in Santa Teresa, New Mexico.  Along with that I have volunteered at my local church helping out with donations, food drives, and helping out at the Rescue Mission.  It may seem that my head is bigger than it should be but you can ask any of my high school teammates and they will tell you that I am a humble player.  At football practice I have mouthed off to my coach but I assure you that never happened again this being the only incident.  I am a humble highschool football player looking to play some college ball, I have told you what I have done and what I would like to do.
