I love football. It’s the sport, the camaraderie, and the life lessons. Life lessons such as competition, discipline, commitment to myself and my teammates, and leadership.
I had the opportunity to play football my high school junior and senior years. I moved to the eastern shore of Virginia the summer of 2021 with my mother. Our plans were to stay for the summer and then return to northern Virginia. I ended up staying, and football was the main reason. At my summer job, I worked with a few players who started to encourage me to try out for the varsity team. I was reluctant as I never played organized football, but I decided to give it a try. My junior year was the first time ever playing, so I had never worn pads, or a helmet, but I had to keep pushing. I also played basketball and baseball. Through these times, I had many new experiences and had a great time. My life had gone from no sports or activities due to the pandemic to playing three varsity sports. To me, this proved that I could remain resilient and determined regardless of what unexpected challenges and changes happen.
During my senior year, I was a starting offensive and defensive lineman, and my coach and teammates selected me as a senior team captain. We enjoyed a winning season, and I also was selected to play at the 2022 Virginia-North Carolina 8 Man Football Annual All Star Game.
I was fortunate to have been given the opportunity to play football in high school and hope to continue this sport in college and bring some of those life lessons to a team.
