Personal Statement

I am as determined in the classroom as I am on the field. I want to play D-1, I work hard and have the drive to be great! My parents have supported me every step of the way and expect nothing less than my absolute best.  Thus, I have the work ethic to achieve my goals.  Listening, learning, and being coachable every step of the way, I will not let you down if I am your recruit .  I have proven myself to be a leader both on and off the field.

  • Evaluation for Matthew EdwardsPosition title: Player Evaluation date: 6/18/2021 RUN BLOCKING IMG FOOTBALL Matthew was a decent run blocker. He had a good punch and maintained a solid base. At times Matthew wouldn't get two feet in the ground before contact which is a pivotal key in being a good run blocker. Overall Matthew has the tools to be a very good run blocker he just needs to continue to practice the technique in order to grow and develop in it. PASS BLOCKING IMG FOOTBALL Matthew improved in his pass blocking throughout the week. He was galloping in his kick set instead of kick dragging. He improved drastically in this and has made good strides. In his pass set at times his eyes would be on his feet instead of on his target. Overall, Matthew has improved throughout the week but there is still room for improvement which will come through repetition and hard work. AGILITY IMG FOOTBALL Matthew moved very well for an offensive lineman. He had good footwork on the agility ladders and the bags. If he does not already own an agility ladder, I’d highly recommend getting one as any great offensive lineman has great footwork. The agility ladder is a great tool for an OL to improve his feet which will translate to his play on the field. STRENGTHS IMG FOOTBALL Matthew was very coachable and it showed through his progressions throughout the week. He was able to take coaching and making corrections from film to grow and develop his game. He improved throughout the week and that is a testament to his hard work. Continue to work and develop your skills as an OL. Wishing you the best! AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT IMG FOOTBALL Continue to grow in your pass protection as you will only get better through repping it and continuing to work the steps and technique. The main way to improve your pass blocking is to continue to practice and get better through muscle memory. Vince Lombardi said it best, “The dictionary is the only place that success comes before work. work is the key to success, and hard work can help you accomplish anything.” Continue to work and develop your craft to become a great OL. Correspondence Matthew Edwards - Thank you for working with Matthew. He loves the sport and I’m sure he will continue to work hard. Also as parents we like the fact that he is coachable.
