I've played organized basketball since I was 4 years old. My Dad coached my brother and I from the time I was 4 up until I started playing competitive Club basketball around the 8th grade. My Mom was always the "Team Mom"; she kept us organized and headed in the right direction. They've been the best role models a guy could ever ask for.
Growing up, I always played Point Guard for whatever team I was on. Even as a Freshman in High School, I was still running point. Over the Summer between my Freshman and Sophomore years in HS, I went from 6'0" to 6'5" overnight. My Sophomore year, I was still figuring things out. I can still dribble and pass well, but now my Coach needed me to also get rebounds.....so I moved to what he dubbed a Point Forward. We asked my Coach if I could stay down on JV as a Sophomore to help me get things dialed in. I didn't want to go up to Varsity, only to sit the bench. I knew I needed minutes to figure out my new body and my new role.
I took the Summer between my Sophomore and Junior year to dedicate myself to my body. I've always been thin, and I needed to pack on muscle. I also worked with Brendon Lavender (my Skills Coach) twice per week, and with Drew Bohannon (from Speed & Strength University) twice per week. In between those workouts, I lifted weights 5 times per week.
When my Junior season started, I was a little over 6'6". I had packed on 12 pounds of muscle since the last basketball season ended. I started all 28 games on Varsity my Junior season. The team had a great season, finishing 23-5 and making it to the Elite 8 in State Playoffs. I was voted the "MaxPreps Player of the Game" during the first round of State Playoffs. Personally, I had a solid season, playing the Forward position. I received Honorable Mention for the All Region team, and my teammates voted me as the "Most Improved Player."
After my Junior year basketball season was over, I tried out for volleyball, and made the varsity team. I've started every game thus far, and I'm currently in the Top 20 in the State on Kills, and I'm #6 in the State on Blocks. I've been getting up a ton of shots in preparation for my senior year of basketball. I am going to blow the lid off it this season. I am going to play basketball in college.
