Post Grad Year with ISA / Available for 2023/2024
Connor literally learned to walk on a basketball court. When Connor's older brother, Nathan, began Kindergarten, it was at a private Catholic School that required 50 hours of community service at the school per year. Since Connor's Dad, Neil, had been coaching since 1980 and focused on Football, Basketball, and Soccer, he offered to coach the Grade 7 Basketball team. So, when it was time for Connor's mother, Lisa, to pick up Nathan from Kindergarten, his father would be in the gym coaching the Grade 7 boys basketball team. Connor (at that time age 1) would see his father in the gym, "toddle" over to him and, inevitably, pick up a ball to run around with.
As part of taking on the Grade 7 basketball program, Neil suggested to the school to begin a Friday drop in for younger grades so that they could learn the skills that were apparent that the Grade 6 & 7s weren't getting soon enough to be competitive. Connor asked if he could join in, when he was in Grade 1, and started learning with the Grades 2 - 5s in one Gym while his father was running the Grade 5, 6, 7 sessions in the bigger gym. Before long, Connor had found his passion.
Connor wants to maximize his skill level as much as possible. He has worked with the best coaches that have been available at the point that he needed them. Split Second Basketball taught him how to play the game in Elementary School. Playmakers taught him the skills to dominate at all levels. And VanCity has been preparing him for the University level (Jamie Oei, owner of VanCity, is the Former Head Coach of Douglas College, Langara College, Assistant Coach at UBC, Associate Head Coach at SFU - a D2 University). Connor is ready for the next level and the training that comes with that.
Connor has signed with International Sports Academy (ISA) based in Willoughby, Ohio for a Post Grad year. Because of Covid, Connor was not able to travel into the US during his final 3 years of High School and University scouts were not able to travel into Canada for the same. As a result, he has signed with ISA to play for the 2022/23 year while taking 3 university credit courses and training in a situation similar to a University program. Any university signing Connor will be getting a player with an additional year of seasoning and physical maturity, without having to spend any time or scholarships on a Freshman.
