Hi, my name is Troy Stephens. I am 18 years old and I am a Senior at St. Pius X Catholic High School (SPX) in Atlanta GA. I am a starting combo guard for St. Pius X and I have averaged 17.5 points a game so far in the 2017-18 season. This year (2017-18) we have set two school records: 1st team to ever have 26 wins in a single season (26-3) as we head into the Elite Eight; and 1st time hosting an GHSA Elite Eight State Tournament on (2/28/18). This year I made the "All-Tournament Team" and the GHSA "All-Region Team" as well.
I joined St. Pius X in the fall of 2016 as a junior. I helped my team get to the 2017 GHSA State 4AAAA Championship game where we finished the season as GHSA 4AAAA runner up. This was the first time in 25 years that St. Pius X has been to the Championship game. In the last year, I was ranked number 8 (guard) in the State of Georgia, and Top 100 (#66) in the Country by Scouts Focus (fall 2016). Also, I was ranked number 3 (guard) in the State of Georgia by Future 150 during their camp. I placed in the Top 10 players at the Future 150 invitational camp in Birmingham, AL. Academically, I am very proud to have a 3.36 GPA. I am a very hard worker in the classroom as well as on the court.
Last year my AAU team was the Atlanta Select Elite. Before that I played with the Atlanta Xpress, an Under Armour sponsored team. My previous AAU team, Game Elite placed second place in the Norman Parker Showcase. We also placed 3rd in the Texas Kingsman tournament.
I help others on the basketball court too. I help my teammates understand new plays, I encourage them when they are doing something wrong, I also try to lead by example in practices and in games. I try to make games fun for my teammates and I try to make the game easier for them to settle into. I am a born leader, so I try my hardest to lead my team to victory every time I step on the court. I will make sure I have my teammates back as they would have mine. I try and go the extra mile for my team and coaches because I know they would do the same for me.
I pride myself on keeping my grades up because school always comes first in my household. I have decided to pursue Law as my major. I would like be be an Attorney. I take my education just as serious as I take my basketball career. I enjoy learning and participating in class workshops and I enjoy helping others in the classroom.
I also enjoy giving back to others. I volunteer at my church, New Beginning Baptist Church, and I volunteer at MED-Share, and men's homeless shelters. I enjoy speaking on days like Youth Day and Men’s day. I enjoy going to church and serving others. It always makes me smile when I know I have impacted someone’s life just by giving them my company and time.
I am going to attend a college that is a right fit for me athletically, academically, and socially. I want a great education while I have the opportunity to play my favorite sport. I am a hard worker and I know any college I go to I will bring my effort, team work, and my hard work.
