To any prospective coach that reads this,
My name is Brandyn Michaels, ever since I was 10 years old all I have ever wanted to do is play basketball. I probably play or practice every single day of the year. The characteristics that set me apart is my competitive drive and relentless work ethic to be the best player I can become and help the team I play on win. At 6' 1" with a muscular 170 lb. frame, I'm currently a combo guard that can score at all three levels. I'm only 15 years old and believe I will continue to get taller and stronger. I have always been faced with adversity when it comes to my basketball skills. One coach told me I was not athletic enough. After hearing that, I now work out harder in the "off-season" than anybody in the area. I've become faster, quicker, and my jumping ability has exploded to where I can almost dunk (I'm getting my wrist above the rim easily now). My Dad told me I was not a good enough outside shooter, so I worked in the driveway doing form shooting drills repeatedly daily until I established consistency with the right form I was comfortable with. I'm now an elite outside shooter that has range well out to the NBA 3pt line and hit multiple 3's per game. My high school varsity coach this past year told me my defense was not good enough. All I've done since the season ended is work on my lateral movement with my trainers and tell my AAU coach to let me guard the other teams' best players so I can get better. I think my defense is very underrated now and I can't wait to show any coach that questions me what I can do on that side of the ball. The same can be said with those that question my ball handling, when I was younger I always played the 4 or 5 spot, now I've evolved into a guard and can ball handle extremely well. I get to the rim with ball in hand as well as off the dribble routinely in games to get my points.
There is more to me than just basketball, I feel I have stronger character traits. My parents have always taught me right from wrong and their influence on my life has been very impactful. Academically my freshmen year in high school has really been an interesting one, as for the first time in my life I'm realizing that as much work I put into being a basketball player, I will need to put in the same if not more as a student. My grades have been good but I know next year I will do much better given the expectations I place upon myself.
I hope for whatever coach that reads this understands they will be a great basketball player, teammate, and overall person if I am a part of their college program.
