Walter Mattingly '21 Recruiting Profile

The two most important things to know about me are that I love basketball, and I love to compete.  I have played high level basketball on nationally ranked teams since third grade; it is my obsession  and I try to work every day to add to my tool box.  I love competition and want to win.  It is important to keep the opposing team from scoring in any way possible and to make sure someone from our team has better opportunities to score. I started varsity at point guard for Batesville HS (IN - 3A) in 2017-18, and at shooting guard as a sophomore at Deerfield HS (IL - 4A) last season after my father moved for work to the Chicago area.

I can score at all three levels and guard 5 positions on the high school court, but I view my most important role as facilitating great offensive play and defensive play from my teammates.  Every coach I've ever had has praised my court vision as exceptional.  I try to make sure the ball gets to the best option every time I touch it and that my teammates and I are in the right position on the floor to make the right play every time.

Off the court, I study hard and maintain a good GPA at the extra-challenging academic school, Deerfield High School. I also volunteer at local youth basketball camps and help as much as I can.

I want to attend a college where I can push myself in the classroom and on the basketball court. I want to find the right college match at the highest level of competition possible. I want to help any college I attend compete for championships and achieve stretch team goals.

Last, my parents have instilled a strong moral compass in me.  I know right from wrong and embrace the status of role model, and the responsibility that comes with.
