Personal Statement
Those who know me best will refer to me as a happy, athletic and a funny guy. They would also say that whenever I come around, I always bring a great vibe that their other friends don't have. To have them say this about me, and actually being the person I am, is a blessing. I grew up struggling in a noisy and dangerous Harlem, New York where I have seen some of the craziest things. On the other hand, dealing with my own personal problems and family problems, I always found a way to smile during the rough times, as I still do today. My smiles became even bigger when I decided to try something new and try to achieve my dreams just four years ago when I decided to move to Maine and stay with a host family I've known since I was a little kid. It has been a rollercoaster ever since. Stephen and Jane have been a big part of my life. Ever since enrolling into Yarmouth High School, I believe I have gotten a better education and actually started to learn different things compared to New York. They introduced me to great people and they all inspired me to try new sports like soccer, lacrosse, and cross country. One sport that I have always loved, and will forever, is basketball. I learned that it's a form of art and that how you play, and even prepare yourself for games applies to life. I think what separates me from other recruits is that I work smarter more than harder. Basketball taught me this lesson and it has helped me get through school and life. I love basketball and I don't want to give up my dreams of playing for a great college and achieving my ultimate dream, making the NBA. I have to have that determination and mindset to never let anyone surpass me as a player because if I do, then that means that I've been doing something wrong and that I've been lacking, and not getting better. Finally, I have the love, passion and focus for basketball and I am on my own path to greatness and to achieve my goals.
