Halfway through my junior year in high school I felt challenged to do something different and step out of my comfort zone. I had felt for a while that I was not reaching my full potential. I was falling short somewhere.
One day my parents mentioned New Mexico Military Institute and I was surprised at the feeling I had. I wanted to try something completely different and step off the path that everyone else was traveling. I am driven in that I want to be successful and use my God-given talents. I am tall, athletic and smart. I enjoy structure and hard work. I am not afraid of a challenge. We decided New Mexico Military Institute was a perfect fit. I wasnʼt afraid, I was excited. I felt challenged for the first time in a long time.
I start with this story because this is who I am now. I am a student-athlete with goals and ambitions. My life has been forever changed because I went from a regular high school to a college prep military school. I have learned time management and life skills. The discipline I have received at NMMI has applied to every area of my life. I am stronger in the classroom as well as on the basketball court.
The New Mexico Military Institutional mission statement is to educate, train, and prepare young men and women to be leaders capable of critical thinking and sound analysis, leaders who possess uncompromising character, and leaders able to meet challenging physical demands.
With the foundation built at NMMI I envision my college years to be an extension of this growth. My goal is to pursue a degree in business with a minor in communication. On the court, I plan on being a leader. A player who sets goals and uses my leadership skills to help influence a positive team environment. Most importantly I will take the values I have learned and apply them in the classroom as well as on the basketball court. I will conduct myself with honor and respect on and off the court, knowing the person I am, reflects on myself, my team, my coaches and the school I attend.
