I became interested in basketball when I was 5 years old, playing in I9 Sports. I was able to pick it up quickly and I thought that I was pretty good at it. I felt that I could get better and I never got tired of playing basketball. I fell in love with the game then and to this day, that feeling has not changed. Although I always felt that I was a good player, I learned that I can always get better. I could see the results of the "extra" work that I put in (work outside of practices). Practice is something that I look forward to and not dread.
My academic goal is to achieve honors and high honors. I would like to maintain a GPA that would lead to more collegiate opportunities. I had to learn to develop better study habits and I am still learning. I do not have the best academic history in middle or elementary school, but I am not allowing that to be an obstacle for me. The same way I realized that my game can get better with the extra work I put in the gym, I learned that I can have similar success in the classroom. I hope to carry that success in the classroom through college as well. It is one thing to be a great athlete, it is an awesome thing to be an Academic All-American.
I do not feel as though anything has come easily to me in my journey. I have always faced obstacles and setbacks that could have stopped me from moving forward, but I have not allowed them to. I have pushed past those bumps in the road and worked to get better. I have had to overcome being overlooked; I have overcome injury; I have overcome limitations others have tried to set on me. I learned that I can handle almost anything. I try not to let anyone or anything keep me down. My best qualities are that I am coachable, I do not get down on myself and I am not afraid of hard work. I feel that the support of my parents has helped me get to this point and is always helpful. My mom is highly involved and looks for anything that will help me to get better. It can either be a clinic, a camp, or even a tryout. I always stay busy and I have my parents to thank for that.
