ESTEP of TVCS is GAMER OF THE WEEK
Putnam Herald
-- Teays Physical Therapy Center, INC. & The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Male Gamer of the Week Award to Shane Estep of Teays Valley Christian School.
The Teays Valley Christian School (TVCS) boys basketball team (7-7) has had an up and down season; however, they have the true heart of the lion in junior shooting guard, Shane Estep. Shane leads the team in scoring and assists, averaging 20 points and 4 assists per game. He’s also had several 30-plus point games this season, including a double-double against Ohio Valley Christian last month.
Head Coach Jody Sowards had this to say about his stud junior, “Shane is a very important part of our team! He really brings a level of craftiness on the offensive end. Shane is not only a vital part of our team he is also a great young man.”
Shane has attributed his personal success to the hard work put in this offseason saying, “I recently started AAU Basketball, which has helped me improve a lot. I’ve been doing a lot more drills and have started weight training, both of which have really helped me develop as a player.”
Shane says this team is like no other he has ever been a part of. His role is very different here than it has been in in years past, “My role on this team is to be a true leader; giving it my all every night and if I see anyone not at their best, then I try to pick them up and motivate them to play to the best of their ability.”
When asked about his experience at TVCS, Shane was quick to credit his teammates saying, “I’m really glad to be a part of this family. My teammates really motivate me and give me the drive I need to keep going. We really push each other in practice to make sure we get the most out of each day.”
Shane went on to say, “When we are playing at our best, we are moving the ball around, communicating, and having lots of fun playing the game together.”
This team truly is different for Estep and it is showing on the court.
“I didn’t have a chance at some other schools, so when I got here it really lit a fire in me to dive in with everything I’ve got to show people who I am and what they missed out on,” said Estep.
Shane has a 3.0 GPA and is the son of Duane and Cristy Estep.
Coach Sowards has done an excellent job of raising up great young men and he was very quick to compliment Shane’s character saying, “We are looking forward to even greater things out of Shane in the future, not only in basketball, but also in life as he looks to Christ to direct his paths.”
Please look for other local high school athletes to be named next week’s Male Gamer of the Week sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, INC. & The Putnam Herald.
