Sports have always been an important part of my life. I don’t remember a time when there wasn’t at least one sport (usually multiple) that occupied my time outside of school. It has really been in the past 2 years that I have homed in on golf as my true sports passion. It would be ideal if I could combine my love for golf with my future career, so I am focusing on a business and marketing degree. It is my hope that I can parlay my golfing experience into a position with a sporting goods company or a similar situation.
Golf has been the one true way for my dad and I to bond. He works odd hours, but he always makes time to hit the course with me. That’s one of the things that I love about golf is that it brings people together.
Over the past couple of years, I have played on Jr. PGA teams for the Tapawingo National Golf Club, here in St. Louis. I was selected for their All-Star Team.
My home course is Castle Bluff, which is a 9-hole course. It is also the course that my high school team utilizes. Last year, I played for my Oakville High School golf team. I was the only Freshman selected to the team with a large, highly competitive field vying for that spot.
This Fall I played in several local tournaments for Gateway Jr. PGA. I took first in two events and third place in another. These were all 9-hole tournaments.
I have used several different golf coaches through various courses here but have not settled on one that t is truly a good fit. As the Spring approaches, I will be focusing on finding the right swing coach and also playing in more 18-hole tournaments.
The strengths that I bring to a golf team include my course management skills, consistent scoring and my mental toughness. I want to play at a competitive college level and plan to use my next 3 seasons to get to that level.
My goal for college is to make it possible for me to unite both my personal and professional goals into a single fulfilling career that evolves around the game of golf.
