Hello my name is Morgan Hackman and I am a 6ft 3 215lb power forward. I make it tough on my opponents by getting in their way, punishing them along the boards, and forechecking is my specialty. I feel I can control the puck in the offensive zone and make plays using my big body. I have good puck control and stick handling abilities to protect the puck and make moves around the defender or to put myself and my teammates in better positions.
I am from a small town called Vernon in British Columbia, former home to Hockey Canada. Hockey history runs deep in my home town. My family played a small role in it during the late 80s and early 90’s when my grandfather owned the local Junior Hockey Team the Vernon Lakers. The team was very successful – competing in four national championships and winning two but more importantly, those years resulted in many life long hockey friends for my family.
I have played hockey since I can remember. My grandpa, my uncle, aunt and dad all played hockey in the same rinks I did. Renting the local small rink for a Christmas skate and scrimmage has been a family tradition since before I was born. I participated in the local minor hockey system up until grade 7 when I was accepted into the Rink Hockey Academy (formally known as Pursuit of Excellence) as an under-ager. Because my birthday is so late – December 30th – I was 11 years old playing with 14 years old. This was an awesome experience for me. In 2021, I was selected to play on the U15 Rink Prep team under the coaching leadership of my hockey hero Jerome Iginla. I learned so much not only about the game of hockey from Jarome (like the art of winning draws and battles along the boards) but also about how to be a good teammate and human being. This upcoming season, I once again have the privilege of being coached by Jarome and I will be sure to soak up every moment of it.
Everyone asks me what I want to do with my hockey. The answer is, I don’t know – I am only 15. What I do know is that I want to play hockey for as long as I can. I believe that pursuing an education through NCAA and continue to develop my hockey sense and skills through the college system will be the best way to prepare myself for my adult life and ultimately life after hockey – when that day comes.
I am an asset to every team I play on. I am very coachable, adaptable – I can play any position you need me to play, and I am a very hard worker. In the dressing room and on the ice I am a respectful, encouraging and a supportive teammate, I can get the boys buzzing. I am excited about my future in hockey and I am looking for a great organization or school to continue my journey.
