My name is Yuxiang Gu but you can call me Louis. I'm a 6 foot 1 inch hybrid goaltender who has lived in Canada since 2018 in pursuit of living my hockey dream to play hockey for an NCAA Division on University. Off of the ice I am a straight A student with a positive attitude who can be an amazing asset to any team.
My strong character is the result of the challenging journey that brought me to Canada when I was only 13. I travelled a long way from Shanghai, my home, without my family and lived with strangers in order to play for Rink Hockey Academy U15 Varsity Team. I wasn't lonely for long and by the end of my first year, I felt like a Canadian. Due to difficulties with my visa and then COVID, I wasn't actually able to return home for over a year and a half.
Coaches tell me I have excellent leadership skills. I have been told that I play the puck well and I see the play developing on the ice. I can move around the crease fast and see the puck well through screen. Being a hybrid goalie, I am a good stand-up goalie and I am also strong saving the puck low.
If I had the opportunity to play hockey at a University level, I would be pursuing studies in Engineering. I would like to combine studies in Computer Engineering along with Environmental Engineering in order to learn about using technology to help preserve our environments.
I am a smart, mature and independent hockey player who will add culture, leadership and positivity to your team. I look forward to making an impact on your team and at your University.
Thank you so much.
