Personal Statement

Me as a Hockey Player:

I am a hard worker and constantly determined to go out and give 110% of my game. I have a coach that told me to always look at every time I step on the ice as if it could possibly be my last. I like to do this so that I live with no regrets. I work hard - and I may not play flawless each and every game. We all have off days and I am not perfect, but I try my very best. I am very passionate about hockey and I play with heart. I try to share this passion with my enthusiasm and support of my team mates on the ice and I hope that my determination and dedication leads me to great success personally and most importantly, success for my team!

Me as a Student:

I like to look at this question as the best ways to describe me - both strengths and weaknesses. If I had to make a list of ideas about me that could best describe me, I think that I should probably start with the weaknesses so that I end on a high note. I do have dyslexia so I know that sometimes school can be frustrating to me. I am not the most organized student, so that is a goal of mine to get better in that so that it can lead to my success in life. I am very determined to be successful and therefore I think that good words to describe me are just that – determined, focused and dedicated. I show this in all areas of my life. I think the word perseverance is also a good description of me and who I am. I am compassionate and kind to others, and I have a strong passion for what I believe in. I am confident in net as a goaltender in hockey and have been described as the kid who plays with more heart than most who play the game professionally. I am proud of who I am and my determination to never, ever give up on what my goal is. I think that makes me who I am today. I may have problems in schooling that people could cut me down for, but I do my best and I know that I am a very talented goaltender so I just have to hope people give me a chance to prove myself to them that I can do it!

Personal Statements from Coaches & Players:

Coach Craig Johnson

"Brandon has improved his game significantly because of his work ethic and his dedication to improving his skills"

Dylan Skule

"Playing with Brandon has really been awesome. I got to see him grow not only as a goalie but as a student and person all around. He was shy at first but soon came out of his shell to what he is now: a humble, strong-willed athlete that is driven to achieve. Very strong work ethic and very passionate about the game. It was great playing in front of him as a D and having him lead us to a National Championship."

We were encouraged to make the move to LA Hockey to play for a solid birth year team ('98).
  • 2010 LA Jr. Kings (Pee Wee AAA)
  • Brandon made the move to the Jr. Kings organization for his Pee Wee years, as they were encouraging him to come and play for the club. The coaching and off ice training at the Jr. Kings was fabulous and Brandon enjoyed playing with his birth year ('98). We played for the LA Jr. Kings for both Pee Wee years.

  • Article of thanks to Pro Sport for his training
  • 4 years
  • “We’re treated like family” An interview of Brandon regarding his training at ProSport... Thinking of my training at ProSport, it really kind of defines the thought of working together as a team, like family. Every member of the staff in the Rancho Santa Margarita facility treats each and every patient as if they are a family member, giving them individualized attention and also working on team building in a fun and positive atmosphere. Every week, we worked together in small training groups with the guys and I think that we gained much more than physical strength and conditioning. We kind of gained a spirit that shared the same heart. We all were focused on meeting the goal of gaining the “Trifecta” and ProSport was right there believing with us each and every step of the way. We might not have been the best players out there on the ice, but our spirit and the way we played with that common heart, we truly soared! ProSport continued helping me individually the next season as I was taken out in a game and I hurt my shoulder. As a goaltender who had plans to go play out east the next season, I came to Robert asking him to please help me. Within moments, Robert laid out the plan and I worked with he and Todd and Greg and I made it back in record time, stronger than ever. They even recommended equipment that I could purchase for my home to do each day to continue to build strength on my own which has been huge. ProSport came to my rescue and helped me to get back on top of my game. When I left SMCHS to play at Avon Old Farms, the ProSport staff still helped me out when I would come back for vacations and holidays. Robert, Greg, and Todd where so helpful with keeping my strength and flexibility at its peak performance and it was a major help in the process of off ice training. I owe them so much, as I made the top varsity squad my first year out east and was even able to return to Nationals with my fall season team. ProSport is not only a family that cares about their athletes, but they are all so trained that they don’t push you to hurt your body, but rather, they push me to do my very best in a safe environment. They are all great guys and I can’t thank them enough! — Brandon Schellin Ice Hockey Avon Old Farms School Avon, CT
