My passion for the greatest game started very early for me. I attended my first NHL game where the Tampa Bay Lightning faced off against the Boston Bruins. I was 18 months old and from what I was told was never one to sit still well but I sat mesmerized for the entire 3 periods. While I was unable to talk proficiently yet I had learned sign language and continued to use the sign for “more” when the game ended. I started skating lessons soon after that and have been hooked ever since. I have played on a travel hockey team since I was in Kindergarten and never have taken a season off.
I am currently a left winger on the Tampa Bay Jr. Lightning Midget U16AA team and also play the same position for my high school varsity team. I was recognized by the Lightning High School Hockey league this past season and was named the first team left winger as a sophomore on the All-Academic team. I was also recognized for my GPA and 41 point season (in 22 games). I was also the leading goal scorer for the Jr. Lightning this past year as well. We competed in 18 regular season games and 7 tournaments (winning 4 and losing in the final in 2 others). I feel I am a good skater, with decent speed, good hands, and a good hockey IQ. I enjoy setting up my teammates with a solid pass enabling them to bury the puck in the net.
I attend East Lake High School and was accepted into the Engineering Academy. Attending college to study Engineering and Technology is my first priority, but I would also love to play collegiate ice hockey at the highest level possible as this has been a dream of mine.
I also play lacrosse for my high school. I am a defender and long stick midfielder for the varsity team. Lacrosse is more of my secondary sport, but I am loyal to both the hockey and lacrosse teams. If given an opportunity I would be interested in also continuing to play lacrosse at the collegiate level. I also enjoy playing golf, which is a fun pastime.
Every summer, for the past 4 summers, I have been accepted and attended an academic camp at Western Kentucky University’s Center for Gifted Studies. The camp is for Verbally and Mathematically Precocious Youth (VAMPY), at which students take a class for three weeks, stay in dorms, and play sports while not in class. The classes have a lot of diversity and meeting new people there every year is an amazing experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the class researching the Holocaust as well as participating in Stem Labs.
In the past two years I have volunteered almost 175 hours within my community. I volunteered at a youth camp over the summer as a teen counselor and during the holiday seasons at the Salvation Army to pass out turkeys or donated gifts to the less fortunate.
I am expecting invitations/inductions into the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Engineering Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and the Mu Alpha Theta at the start of my next academic year.
