Personal Statement
My name is Spencer Tammaro and I am entering my junior year at New Albany High School, I will graduate in the spring of 2020. My current goal is to be the best student athlete I can be and am a firm believer that with hard work, anything is possible. Therefore, I work to excel both in the classroom and on the ice with the ultimate goal of playing hockey at the college level while studying medicine. I know there are many opportunities out there but I am keeping an open mind on where I go and want to find a good match for me.
Hockey has always been my passion. I grew up watching hockey and attending local NHL games. I started skating when I was 3 and began playing when I was 6. This month, I am preparing for the start of my third year with the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets under coach Perry Ganchar. Prior to AAA, I played 5 years with the Ohio AA Blue Jackets. My strengths are my speed, my ability to score and my versatility to play both left and right wing. I have been told that I have good hockey sense and an ability to see where the puck is going.
I have been fortunate to have been mentored by some great coaches like John Markle, a former Ohio State coach, and RJ Umberger, a former player for the NHL Columbus Blue Jackets and the Flyers. I try to embody the dedication and work ethic that they have pointed out as necessary to succeed. Not only am I a hard worker on the ice but I am also a hard worker in school. I work very hard to maintain my grades and I know that with good grades that will better help me get into a good college.
My long-term goal is a career in sports medicine where I hope to continue to be involved in sports, and specifically hockey. I am hard working and determined to find a school that will provide me with the opportunity to pursue my dreams both on and off the ice. I am looking for a school that values these traits and aligns with my long-term goals.
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement.
