Hello, I’m Sherman Martinez. Most of my life I have been playing different sports. But in 7th grade I discovered a sport I was good at, rowing. From there, I joined the Newport Aquatic Center and have since been sweeping and sculling.
Rowing has made a big impact on my life because it has taught me how to work hard and as a team. It has also given me immense fitness and mental toughness. I have met many friends on my team who I will value for a very long time.
I strive to be the best I can be for my team and to give it my all to move the boat closer to that finish line. I did this my novice year by stroking the U17 A boat and ultimately leading them to nationals. From there, I won the MVP award that year.
During school, I do my best to keep my GPA high, At the end of my freshman year of high school I was able to reach a high enough GPA which put my name on the honor roll.
I would consider myself an avid rower and would love to continue and grow in competitive rowing throughout college. I hope I can row for a team that can teach me to become a better version of myself and push my crew and I beyond our limits to the finish line.
