Before I started rowing, I thought of it as an easy thing to do after school. My mind was quickly turned around after my first “Learn to Row” day. Once the season started, I struggled to find my rhythm and keep up with the other rowers. This is what made me realize how much physical and mental strength you have to keep rowing. I learned to fix my technique, timing and teamwork, all while pushing myself to my limits.
I have now been rowing since 7th grade for both the fall and spring seasons. I erg when I’m at home, and I never miss practice unless absolutely necessary. Rowing has taught me teamwork and how to build myself mentally and physically.
When I look back to before I started rowing, I am glad that my view on rowing was wrong. I have been pushed to grow in ways I have never expected. And I am excited for the challenges that I will face in the future.
