After playing competitive soccer and tennis for several years, about 3 years ago, when I was 13, I started rowing through a week-long summer camp with Cincinnati Junior Rowing Club. I quickly came to love the sport, dedicating 6 days a week to it. I rowed my novice year while in the 8th grade, and now, as a sophomore, have rowed varsity for the past two years. I was born and lived in Los Angeles for my first five years, but I moved to Cincinnati when I was five. I am Brazilian-Costa Rican-American and speak fluent Portuguese, Spanish, and English. Being unique in my background and different than those around me has taught me to be resilient and to keep going, no matter what external factors come my way. Through rowing, I have been able to use these lessons and learn new ones, as the sport requires a lot of hard work, strength, time, and determination. Not only do I work hard and seek out any way I can to improve on the water and the erg, but I also apply this in school, earning a 3.9 GPA last semester. In college, I want to row and keep utilizing what I have learned to study pre-law so I can become a lawyer, take the experiences and struggles I have had, and use them to help others. As I am a self-motivated, hard worker and have the ability to adapt and thrive in new situations, I know that I would be a great candidate for any program, as I bring a different perspective and positive energy to the sport.
