Personal Statement
Since COVID began to spread in March 2020 in the U.S., it has been both a challenge and a blessing for me. Fortunately, for me I have always been able to change and adapt whether it is by choice or because (as with COVID), there was no other choice. As an aspiring entrepreneur, I understand the importance of accepting challenges and setbacks as opportunities to grow and reflect. Although I would love to be able to train and compete with others in soccer and to take part in college life on campus, as a resident of Los Angeles County, I have stayed vigilant and careful throughout the quarantine. Rather than be frustrated, I have used the quarantine as a time to further improve my soccer skills through many hours of strength training and skills work. Also, during quarantine, I have focused on working towards laying the foundation for two of my business ideas.
As a freshman member of the Marymount California University’s soccer team, I was excited to begin training with my team during Fall 2020 and looked forward to beginning our season in February 2021. Unfortunately, in the beginning of 2021, we received notification that there will be no season and that the University is considering cutting all athletic programs. While this was a surprising and disappointing announcement, I understand that it is just one more challenge that I must meet with resilience and determination--two characteristics that I know will lead me towards success as an entrepreneur and that will allow me to thrive and to be a valuable asset for any university soccer program.
