My name is Emery Suess and this is my second year being a part of my 08’ White Team for Highland Football Club in Asheville, North Carolina. Soccer has been a major part of my life for longer than I can even remember. I have played for multiple club teams, but joined the 08’ White Team for Highland Football Club this year. I am 5 ft. 5” tall/120 lbs and play as an attacking midfielder, and a box-to-box center midfielder. Being a box-to-box midfielder, some of my strengths are staying calm as I receive the ball in tight spaces, the ability to read the game to tackle and intercept passes, and making quick decisions on distributing the ball. As an attacking midfielder, some of my strengths are, holding the ball well with pressure on me, playing through balls that break lines, finding good positions to receive the ball, taking decisive touches, and making runs off of the striker. Also, although I might not be physically the fastest player or physically the strongest player, my soccer IQ makes me one of the fastest and strongest in the mind. This ability really helps me interpret the game and benefits me, as I am not as gifted on the speed or physical side, and helps me be the strongest in the mind. Soccer is truly my biggest passion and it truly influences and benefits my life. Last spring we advanced to the Semi-Finals of the State Tournament. In December of 2021, I won the Gatlinburg Tournament, and again in 2022, for Asheville Shield FC. Last of all, in April-may 2023, my team and I won the NCYSA Kepner Presidents Cup, and also the USYS Regional Presidents Cup, and had the opportunity to attend the USYS National Presidents Cup! Last of all, my Varsity soccer team made it to the 2A private school state finals this year!
For school, this is my third year of playing for both the JV and Varsity Carolina Day School teams. We were second in our conference this year for Varsity and first for JV! Also, I received the Most Improved Athlete award in 7th grade and JV MVP in my 8th grade reclassed year. I hope you get a chance to come to see me play!
On a personal level, I am very devoted to training, and watching, soccer a lot! I love to train my technical and physical abilities on my own! Another thing that I enjoy doing a lot is watching soccer. I will watch games while I'm practicing by myself, driving to a tournament, or at any other time I possibly can. My favorite team is Bayern, and I watch nearly every game they play while trying to focus on what my favorite player, Thomas Muller, does well, and what I can do to play like him, as his play style truly inspires me.
As for the academic side of things, I am very devoted to getting the best grades that I possibly can. I am doing lots of studying and homework on the car rides to and from soccer practice. I am a very well-behaved and hard-working student. This work has paid off to give me a 4.0 GPA through my 8th grade year!
I am a very devoted player on and off the field, and I hope you find interest in me on the field, as well as in the classroom!
