My name is Joshua Torkelson, and I have played soccer since the age of five for various clubs over the years and every position at the competitive level to include GK during that time. Currently, I am currently playing with Oklahoma Energy FC RL B05/04 at the 6, 8, 7 & 11 positions. I previously played with the OK Energy FC ECNL 05 at the 2,4,& 6 positions after starting the season with the ECRL 05 team where I played the 6,8 or 10 positions and occasionally the 7 & 11. I was also selected to the last three State ODP teams prior to COVID. For High School, I start as the CDM.
Soccer has been an integral part of my life and it is my life commitment to play as long as I am able at the highest level that can be achieved. Who wouldn’t want to play the beautiful game for a living? My 3v3 team just finished competing in the 3v3 Live National championships. We play futsal over the winter break each year. I follow soccer like others follow football or basketball, and I copy the moves I see, study the tactics and follow the players. I’ve even influenced a few friends who do not play to take up soccer and others to try out for my HS team. There’s nothing like the feeling of doing what you love with your closest friends around you.
As a team member, I am reliable both on and off the field, and dedicated to my seasonal and off-season training. I take my academic and community responsibilities very seriously as well. What sets me apart is my drive to succeed on the field is matched by the desire to excel off the field. I have 4.0 cumulative GPA, scored a 35 on my ACT and am a National Merit Finalist. I am taking multiple AP classes and am now doing concurrent classes at the local university. I am a member of the Academic Bowl Team, National Honor Society, Student Government, Key Club International, and a peer tutor for my HS classmates. I was also one of 15 chosen among 3000+ HS students to participate in the Leadership Lawton Program and am now part of the Chil-Fil-A Leadership Institute.
What will I bring to a program? My strengths are my awareness, soccer IQ, and charisma. I read the game well and am always thinking a couple of moves ahead. Before college, I am working to improve my first step explosiveness and at times I can think too much on the field. I am still a work in progress.
I know there is a place for me to be both the academic and the player.
Thanks for taking the time to get to know me. See you on the fields!
