Mekhi Baker '26 Recruiting Profile

Hello, my name is Mekhi Baker, and I’m a 2026 FB/CB from Toronto, Ontario. I currently play for Whitby FC in the OPDL (Ontario Professional Development League) U16 League and play for the Varsity soccer team at Sinclair Secondary School. I was also selected for the Ontario Provincial Team (2023 and 2024). I began my youth soccer playing at Dwayne De Rosario Academy. I then played with Toronto FC Pre-Academy before joining Whitby.   

As a devoted student-athlete, I am fully committed to pursuing excellence in both academics and athletics. Academically, I maintain a strong GPA, and I understand the value of balancing sports and education. As a student, I excel in various subjects, including English, Math, and Physical Education. For my Grade 9 year, I was awarded with Honor Roll Achievement. My academic goal is to acquire a degree while playing soccer at the University level.   

Growing up, I played a variety of sports at the club and school levels. However, my love for soccer has always dominated. My involvement with soccer has molded me into a well-rounded person by enforcing positive habits and teaching me the importance of discipline and teamwork.  Throughout my soccer career, I have had the opportunity to be coached by a variety of leaders with various portfolios. This has allowed me to play a variety of styles and learn many different strategies. My position as FB is something I enjoy and want to continually improve upon. I can accept criticism and am willing to use it to improve. I take the training I receive as well as reflections from matches and guidance from coaches to enhance my skills. Throughout my years of playing, I have become a versatile player. On the field, I exhibit a strong work ethic and determination. My experience in multiple positions and adaptability would make me an asset to any team.  

I value playing in a challenging environment that fosters discipline and respect.  On the field, I mainly play as a fullback and am captain of my team. My leadership skills help me motivate and support my teammates. They trust me to control the game by giving directions and making decisions that will benefit all of us. On the pitch, I am confident and composed. I move the ball quickly and strategically to create attacking chances for my team. I am also good at overlapping when the opportunity arises to do so. When defending, I am physical and good in the air. I am good at anticipating the play and able to close down on opposing players quickly. I am always ready to put in a tackle to stop an attacker from creating any chances.

Overall, I am hard-working and a team player, who encourages others. I am versatile and skillful and I feel I am a strong candidate for a university-level team.
