Personal Statement

I have loved playing soccer since the day I put on my first pair of cleats at age five. I started out playing on a recreational team for several years before joining a traveling club team in addition to playing for my school. By playing soccer year-round, I have learned to become a leader and to work with my peers to accomplish goals as an individual and as a team. As the captain for two years of my middle school team, I was able to build leadership skills and be a role model on the field. For my freshman year of high school, I started for our varsity team and have had an opportunity to play a variety of positions. I enjoy playing midfield the most because I think this position brings out my strengths of moving the ball around the field and predicting where the ball will go next. I would make a good addition to the soccer team because I have a desire to always do my best and to bring out the best in others. I have a positive attitude, and use constructive criticism to improve myself. My inspirations include my parents, because I have seen them both work hard to achieve their goals. My father is a Master Chief in the US Navy and my mother is a pediatric nurse practitioner. My father has always inspired me to do my best and has even been one of my coaches as a young child. My mother has inspired me to follow a career in the health sciences. I have also had many coaches that have pushed me to the next level of playing.  My current coach, Syl Johnson has inspired me to reach my full potential on the field.

During high school, I have had the opportunity to be a leader in the classroom. I am in the top ten of my class and currently have a 4.0 grade point average. I have followed the health sciences track and have taken college preparatory and dual enrollment classes in preparation for my college career. My favorite classes have been my math classes, and Medical Terminology, Diagnostic Medicine, and Anatomy and Physiology. I plan to complete a pre-medical studies program as an undergraduate and continue to medical school. My dream is to become an anesthesiologist. This field is interesting to me because I want to help people and I enjoy studying human anatomy and diseases.

Throughout high school, I have been a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta (Mathematics Honor Society). I have also had the opportunity to be in the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) club which prepares students for careers in health science related fields. Recently, I competed with my team in the HOSA bowl, where we were asked health related questions are competed with other schools. I have also had the opportunity to volunteer in my community with an organization called Visualizing Hope which provides educational resources to students with visual impairments. I also plan to volunteer for a local organization called Paws and Claws which helps stray cats and dogs in our community.

A unique characteristic about me is that I have an identical twin brother, who also plays soccer and plans to pursue a career in the field of health science. Even though we are identical twins and we work very well together, we play different positions and have our own unique strengths that can be seen on the soccer field.

I hope to attend a university that will help me to achieve my academic goals while continuing to play soccer. Playing soccer during my college career will help me to reach my goals on and off the field.
