Hugo Calvo Sanchez '22 Recruiting Profile

My name is Hugo Calvo Sánchez, I am from Madrid, Spain. My main position is center back. I have been lucky to work on my development as a player both nationally and internationally.  In 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 I had the opportunity to play in the best league in Madrid and in 2022 I got the chance to play in the MLS Next.

In Spain I played in a youth academy and at the age of 16 they called me to train with the first team.

In my junior year of high school, two of the best soccer academies in Spain (Rayo Vallecano and Getafe) called me to play for them, but I decided to come to the United States.

Also in the summer of 2019 and 2020 I had the opportunity to train for a couple of weeks with the Sunderland academy.

I am a soccer player who is characterized by my physical conditions that highlights my speed, strength, and power. My technical conditions also really stand out, such as start attacks by building play, drive forward with the ball when they have space to do, peripheral vision, good to protect with the body the ball, good passing and precision such as long hitting, vertical passes that break lines. I would also highlight how I use my mind in soccer for read of each game, find open spaces in matches, the way to handle emotions in matches. My way of acting when I have a failure it’s I always try to learn from it and not repeat it again, furthermore my mentality of work, discipline and team thinking. I train every day as if it were the last to improve both individually and collectively and always thinking about helping my team. In the tactical aspect I stand out too, I have very good position on the field, decision making, communication and a lot of versatility that I can adapt to any change of scheme that the coach says or needs the team.

I am also very conscious about the academic aspect, My GPA is 3.67
