I am a physical 6'2" center back from Virginia Beach, Virginia, who aspires to play soccer at a school that challenges me as a student and an athlete.
As a student, I am enrolled in the IB program at Princess Anne High School, which contains rigorous courses and requirements that set myself up for college and tasks later in life. I took this challenge on because I wanted to push myself as a student and I even started taking AP courses as my electives. As a member of the National Honor Society, I value stringent academics that provides a balance with my sports to help me achieve great academic and extracurricular success.
I took it upon myself in my freshman year of high school to expand upon my club soccer by participating in cross country. I would later join the winter indoor track team as well. My freshman club season, I held a clean sheet throughout the entire season in league play, played the entirety of each game and I was playing the best that I played up until that point. Unfortunately, I broke my leg from overuse through training, soccer and cross country, and due to a misdiagnose by my doctor, I ended up exaggerating the break even more, leading to being out for almost 6 months. After that period, I was cut from my club team, by being denied a spot and not being able to prove myself during tryouts, which felt unfair.
Coming back from injury and into my sophomore year, I realized that I had a lot of catching up to do as an athlete. I joined a new club soccer program and worked even harder than I did before in every aspect that I could, but I also learned to be a lot smarter with everything that I was doing, like balancing school and multiple sports, or keeping my body healthy.
I learned that I really don't have a need to dwell on what had held me back originally, but just how I can grow and adapt to situations moving forward, both as a player and student. I believe it is that mentality that will lead me to success throughout high school and into college.
