I started swimming at a very young age. I come from a swimming family where both my father and aunt swam in the Olympics representing Denmark. I have always been a water sport enthusiast, swimming and playing water polo at Homestead High School and swimming at Santa Clara Swim Club, Sunnyvale Swim Club, and Fairbrae Swim and Racquet Club. In addition, I enjoy an occasional surf session with my dad.
I come from a big family with small town roots. My mom is from Central Pennsylvania and my dad from Denmark. We now live in Silicon Valley. These three places are vastly different and have given me the opportunity to experience enormous diversity. As a social and outgoing person, I enjoy a large group of great friends. Although I am competitive, I also feel I am humble in my achievements.
Swimming has taught me enormous self discipline. Swimming requires a commitment like few other sports. Whether it is getting up early to go to morning workouts or going to all day swim meets, swimming requires serious dedication. Of course the rewards, camaraderie, and good health make it all worth while. I strive to do the best I can balancing my academics, social life, and competitive sports. My goal is to attend an academically challenging college that will also allow me to grow as a competitive swimmer.
Swimming is a tough sport that requires dedication and commitment. But I am fortunate to have grown up in a stable and loving family that supported me through the challenges that life sometimes presents.
