I’ve been swimming since I was 3 years old. I started with swim lessons and by 7 years old had joined a swim team. When I was younger, I never liked going to practice. I just wanted to go to meets and swim fast. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized through my coaches and teammates that hard work beats talent any day.
Academically, I have done well. Going out of my comfort zone by taking harder classes each year. I believe swimming has really helped me stay focused in school by instilling discipline and a strong work ethic.
I was able to work at a camp this past summer, teaching young kids how to swim. It was rewarding to watch the kids progress each week and see their excitement when they would learn a new skill.
Swimming is what I love to do. It is what I aspire to do at the college level. I listen, take direction and aim to work harder than anyone else in the pool. I’ve made lifelong friendships with my teammates who have become like family and look forward to all the new experiences and opportunities college will provide.
