I want a college that is going to challenge me in my classes and in the pool. Just like in competitive swimming, I know I will enjoy college most if I put a lot of work into it, and I plan to give it my all.
Most recruits, including me, have been swimming competitively for a long time, but my progress was interrupted two years ago by heart surgery and a hard recovery. During a long course practice in June 2021, my heart started racing out of control and my arms and legs went limp. That day changed my life. I found out that I had a rare genetic heart defect that was life-threatening. Heart surgery that summer was successful but the recovery has been a long process – especially mentally. When I was finally able to get back in the pool, I struggled at practice and every day I wanted to quit. Since I had fallen so far behind in my training, it forced me to develop a tenacious work ethic. My perseverance started to pay off this season when I dropped over 20 seconds in the 500 FR to qualify for VA 6A States and swim a 4:50.09 at the championship. Now that I am fully recovered, I am just getting started in the pool.
