I started running as a hobby during my freshman year and it quickly became something that helped shape who I am not just as a runner but as a person. Running taught me to believe in myself and to never give up, even when things got hard. I ran thousands of miles and each mile is progress. When I first started, I struggled a lot with my cadence and form. But I kept at it. I started doing 5K road races outside of school, and my first time was 27:49 at the Rose Bowl 5K. Since then, I’ve brought my time down to 19:36 for three miles after joining the cross country team in my sophomore year.
I also run 10K races outside of school, and my current PR is 43:14. Running has helped me grow a lot as a person, not just physically but mentally. I’m really thankful for the people who’ve supported me along the way including my family, my coach, and my teammates. It really makes a difference to have people to run with and grow alongside.
I want to keep improving and push myself to be better — not just as a runner but as a person. I want to keep working on being a hard worker, being kind, and being resilient. One athlete I really look up to is Eliud Kipchoge. He said, “No human is limited,” and that’s something I truly believe. I think we’re all capable of going beyond our limits in running and in life.
