Personal Statement
My name is Justin Cremer and I ran 2:00.38 in a 800 meter race last track season. There is much more to me as an athlete and as a person than this statistic will ever be able to express. I am more passionate about running than any other aspect of my life and because of this running has shaped who I am today. However, it has not always been this way. My freshman year my parents forced me to run track and running was not something I enjoyed very much, but I stuck with it. During my sophomore track season my 400 meter times started improving. I was able to to trace this moderate success to the dedication that the sport required and from this moment forward I decided I should take running seriously. As my sophomore season progressed I realized that the more dedication and effort I put into running the better my race results became. I came to the conclusion that if I ran cross country I could significantly improve my track times. As I started running cross country and taking running more seriously Icame to the realization that running is not all about the times. I became infatuated with the idea of testing the limits of my body and seeing what results this produced. With my obsession with this concept has come a passion for running. This passion for running is fueled by the lessons that it has taught me. Running has taught me to persevere, that with dedication and hardwork comes results, and many other lessons that I will cherish for the rest of my life. It has been with these lessons that running has taught me that many other aspects have been influenced. (For example, as soon as I started taking running seriously my grades significantly improved because of my newfound respect for dedication and hardwork). It is with this passion for the sport of running that I was able to run the times that I did last year in my first year of distance track. And it is also because of my passion for running that I believe these times do not accurately represent me. Over the summer I trained harder for cross country than I have for anything else in my life and I am certain this training will not only allow me to have a successful cross country season, but will allow my track times to improve greatly.
