My name is Seth Nelson and I am a senior at Boise High School. I started pole vaulting in the summer of 2019, prior to that I was a competitive gymnast. I am 6 feet tall and 135 lbs. When I am not training during the track and field season at school, I train with Stacy Dragila at the SDVC (Stacy Dragila Vault Company). My outdoor personal record is 16'. My current personal indoor record is 15' 10”. My current athletic goals are to build speed, invert more, and push out of my first few steps harder. This year I will also work on building strength so I can get on bigger poles.
School is very important to me. I’ve served on student council for grades 7-9 and was recognized as 1 of 5 outstanding students at my junior high. I have a 3.9 gpa and am on track to take accelerated/AP courses in math and science as a junior and senior. I am interested in colleges with pre-med, biochemistry or similar programs. I joined HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) as a sophomore and through my participation, I look forward to obtaining a better knowledge of healthcare skills and careers. As a junior, I obtained my Certified Nursing Assistant certificate (CNA) and as a senior I will be serving as a sports medicine/athletic trainer assistant for football, volleyball and fall soccer.
I work very hard at being a well-rounded and coachable person. I believe I take direction well and am able to process and apply new skills and concepts quickly. I am also employed one day a week at a small business where I am responsible for various duties. This has taught me the importance of being reliable, responsible and independent, all of which are required to be a productive person in school, on the track and beyond.
