Personal Statement

I have finished school and am now ready to start college. I have my NCAA eligibility complete. I was originally due to start at a D1 college in Fall this year (2015), but due to an administrative error on the part of the academic department at the college, the place fell through at the last possible moment. This means I'm now available for a start in Spring 2016 (or even a late start for Fall 2015). I'm looking for a college where I can contribute to the team straight away in 400m, 200m, 4x400 and 4x100.

This year I didn't post any new marks as I picked up a strain on the first race of the season. As the season is so short, I decided to sacrifice my competition to make sure I started at college 100% fit, not risk exacerbate the strain. I am now totally fit and ready to go and in full training.

After being selected for the World Junior Championships in Eugene in 2014 but not running, I have a taste for major competition and want that to continue with selection for the World Junior Championships in Kazan in 2016, the World Championships 2017, in London the Commonwealth Games in 2018 in Queensland and then the Olympics 2020 in Tokyo. They may be high expectations but I am willing to work to achieve them. I believe that my best chance to achieve these aspirations will come from a successful application for a sport scholarship in America. To be able to study, train and compete against the highest and most competitive college age students throughout the world would further develop my abilities and give me the best opportunity to make my dreams become reality.  I love to compete and this is the highest level of competition that I can envisage for these important years.

My life revolves around school and athletics. I train four times a week at the track, two of which include weight sessions. I also do morning sessions four times a week which include plyometrics and circuits. At home I have a barbell and weights set so I can carry out weight sessions to add to the twice a week at the track as well as fitting in regular study time to keep on top of my school work. I have competed at national level five times and have achieved seven podium places, this has given me great confidence in my athletic abilities. I compete for my Club, County, School and School County at every opportunity both indoor and outdoor in any flat sprint or sprint relay and have recently represented English Schools in the SIAB Schools International in Dublin, bringing home two gold medals.

At college, I am aiming to study either sport therapy or sport science. I am driven to learn more about the human body and biomechanics, thus understanding how I can improve my performance and using this to help other people achieve their goals using both my experience in sport and my degree qualification. I have been fortunate enough to gain a two week placement at the University of Central Lancashire in the Sports Science Department recently. During this placement I was able to work with athletes and sportsmen from a variety of sports to understand what they can do to improve their performance. I also attend a sports therapist session every week. Both of these opportunities have reinforced my thoughts on how I wish to develop my career in sport.
