Dominic Lopez '11 Recruiting Profile

My name is Dominic Lopez, my teammates and coaches simply call me Lopez. I began running track my freshman year at the 4A level in Las Vegas, Nevada and though at first I was hesitant to enjoy the sport, I've come to love it. The competition offerred by the sport of Track and Field has pushed me to strive for ever higher levels of athletic success. Since becoming a Varsity runner my freshman year and learning my love for the 800m, and 1500m distances, I have steadily improved every season culminating in a current personal bests of 1:57 and 4:11. During my sophmore year I sought out a club team and qualified for the Junior Olympics though injury prevented me from running at the meet. Junior year I was made team captain of my high school team and I helped to lead us to a Region championship. Also, during the 2010 season I became State Champion in the 4x800m relay and Great South West Champion also in the 4x800. For my role as an effective team captain, having helped oversee practices for the whole season, and giving advice to my fellow runners when ever they were in need, I was given the Coaches Award for the 2010 season. During the 2010 club season I become the 1500m and 4x800m Champion and 800m third place finisher, qualifying for Junior Olympics for a second time. It is my great desire to run track at the college level with the hope of becoming faster and developing into a better athlete.
