My name is Josh Russell, I'm currently 17 years old, a senior at Tom Glenn High School (GHS) in Leander, Texas. I'm an AP student, pursuing the "Distinguished with Honors" diploma, with dual endorsements in the Multidisciplinary Program, and STEM: Advanced Mathematics at my high school. I'm in top 4% of my class of 420+ students. In addition to Varsity Athletic Letters, I have an Academic Letter. After I graduate from GHS in the Spring of 2020, I plan to attend a four-year university as a student and an athlete.
I love athletics! I started out in track & field in eighth grade when I joined my school's team at the suggestion of one of the coaches. I ended the season at the State Championships with a gold medal in discus, a silver in the 200 meter, a bronze in the 100 meter, and a true love for track and field. Today, I compete for my high school earning Varsity Letters for Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years. Two years ago, I started competing during the summer season, AAU, and am a two time Junior Olympics Qualifier. I'm a short distance sprinter; 60m, 100m, 200m, 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m. I also have some experience with throwing (discus and shot put).
I work really hard to hone my body and my technique to improve my performance and lower my times. I put a lot of time and effort into training, to get stronger and faster. The intensity, the evolution of skills, the team spirit, and the competition drive me. I am very determined to compete at the next level, in college.
What sets me apart from other athletes is my versatility, my ability to quickly pick up new skills, and my ability to teach skills to other athletes. I like being a good influence on my teammates, and a leader, encouraging them to be as competitive in the classroom, as they are on the competition field. I want us, as student athletes, to be as passionate about being good and productive members of our community, as we are about our school's athletic program.
