Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Nicholas Tartaglia and my friends call me Nick, other people I know call me 'Tags' for fun. I am in my senior year of high school attending Greece Arcadia High School in Rochester New York.  My most desired sport is men's volleyball, and my current status is starting setter on Hot Shots 18's Regional Team. I am very versatile in other positions such as libero and opposite hitter.  In addition, I play competitive volleyball not only indoors with kids my age but also on the sand in an intermediate and advanced division against men and women of all ages, even high divisional college players.

My entire high school district does not have a boy's volleyball program so I have dedicated my high school career to practicing and 'coaching' our varsity girls' volleyball program. Even though I was restricted from playing with the girls in games that did not stop me from playing volleyball. Every day I was allowed to practice with them and gave it my all in every aspect whether it was being a second setter to run drills, an assistant coach to begin practices and run newly developed drills, or just being there to motivate players to grow more and more as an athlete. Even though I was not able to get as much ball handling as any other schools with boy programs I never gave up trying to do whatever I could with volleyball.

I have been playing competitively with Hot Shots for 3 years. Most recently I have begun adopting more beach volleyball into my career within the past couple of months, Participating in a couple of junior tournaments with some friends but mainly intermediate tournments competitively.  Over the summer I have accomplished 2nd place in a mens upper intediate doubles tournament and 1st place in silver with a mens intermediate challenge court division. As time continue I plan to get to know more people and continue to compete at the highest level available and grow even more.

I am very interested in going into college as a leading player, and captain of beach or indoor volleyball. I value the idea of growth and devlopement at any level and hope the potential I show demonstrates that.
