My name is Jack Palmer and I am a Men's Water Polo goalkeeper.
I have strong leadership abilities and strive to perform my best in all situations, both in the pool and out. I have been playing goalie since fifth grade at a club level here in Santa Barbara. Since then I have continued to play water polo on a club team as well as on a high school team. I have competed on the Varsity team since my sophomore year at San Marcos High School.
As a goalie, a large part of my job is to direct my teammates so as to maximize the effectiveness of our team. For this, I use my communication and leadership skills. I am a very verbal goalkeeper during games because I believe it can help the field players as they do their jobs. In addition, my experience playing water polo thus far has allowed me to have many years of practice. This contributes to my knowledge of the game as well as overall skill level. This is how the previous Club Director of the Santa Barbara Aquatics Club describes me:
"I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Jack in the water working on his goalkeeper skills. He has a great work ethic and a positive attitude. He has great lunge technique and has a knack for the ball. He would be a welcome addition to any team's depth chart. Feel free to contact me with any questions. " -John Abdou
Beyond the pool I also push myself academically. I am a honors student with a non-weighted GPA of 4.0 and a weighted GPA of 4.65 as of the end of my sophomore year. I work hard for A's in all of my classes as well as participating in clubs on campus, internships outside of school, community service, and more. With relation to water polo, USA Water Polo recognized me as a 2013-2014 Outstanding Academic All-American.
