I grew up casually playing whatever sports came along: tee-ball, soccer, basketball, and even flag football. In addition, I swam for a club team from the ages of 6 to 12 years old. I always enjoyed being part of a team but I never really felt passionate about a sport until I started playing water polo. This happened when I was 12 years old. My father coached water polo at the high school level at the time, and he encouraged me to give it a try. Another person who influenced me was my first swim coach (and family friend), Ervin Zador, who was a gold medalist in water polo during the 1956 Olympics. In November 2014, I started with Big Valley Water Polo Academy (the local club team) and right away I felt like I had found my niche.
Through water polo, I have learned the value of commitment, patience, and perseverance. Between the club team and the high school team, I have had the opportunity to forge relationships with teammates of many different backgrounds and athletic abilities. Many of the interpersonal skills I have honed in the pool carry over to the classroom and to the rest of life, in general.
