I have a love for playing softball. When I was little I played in a recreational league and had a lot of fun, but then gymnastics took over. I trained and competed until I was 13 years old. Quickly I realized that competing long term as a gymnast was not realistic for me. So I went back to softball. What I found was that not only did gymnastics make me stronger and faster than many of my teammates, I found that I really love to play softball. Since getting back into the sport in 12U, I have quickly accelerated my skills playing not only two seasons of fall ball and one season of all stars for our recreational league, but also joining the JV team at my high school and a 16U travel ball team freshman year.
My strength and skills as a gymnast continues to pay off. I am one of the fastest base runners on my team, I love strength and conditioning, and I am quick on my feet.
When I think about going to college, I think about a great opportunity to learn and grow as a person. I am strong in math and science, but continue to challenge myself in honors English and social studies classes. I would love to see softball continue to be part of my life as I finish high school and continue on to college. In the next few years I plan to continue to play on my travel ball team, compete on the varsity team and continue to achieve Scholar Athlete status each season.
Life is not all about sports and school. I do enjoy giving back to my community through volunteer work and youth organizations. Two years ago, I completed the Carlsbad Student Leadership Academy where I learned strong life and leadership skills and made new friends across many high schools in San Diego County. I also spent a portion of my summer volunteering for the second year in a row at the Helen Woodward Animal Shelter, where I worked with student campers and animals during their summer camp program. And I give back to our local softball organization as both a junior coach and junior umpire. Being part of my community helps me achieve a balance in my day to day, sometimes hectic, life. And I love it.
