My name is Richelle Barone I am 16 years old and I am a junior at Fairfield Warde High School, graduating class of 2015. I am a skilled Center Fielder who isn't afraid to get dirty! I am a power hitter who has speed and has been very successful in clutch batting situations. I also have a very powerful throw. Softball is my life and I want to take the next step and play at the collage level. If I had to describe myself in three words they would be, coachable, dedicated, and passionate. I am mainly a Center Fielder but have extensive playing time at many positions. My first year in High School I was the starting Varsity First Baseman. My sophomore year I was the starting Varsity Center Fielder. On my current and past travel team(s), Xplosion 16u-18u, I have been the starting Center Fielder. Being a Center Fielder you have to be able to cover large distances, have speed, and quick reflexes to be able to cover that ground. You also have to ready to get dirty when needed. Along with softball I have played soccer my entire life. Being a goalkeeper for the past 10 years and playing at the varsity level as a goalkeeper for the past 2 years has given me a sense of aggressiveness. As a goalie you can’t be scared to get dirty and as a Center Fielder I have learned to use that aggressiveness in my position.
I have been playing softball since I was 5 years old on many different teams but specifically for Fairfield Little League Girls Softball or FLLGS. My father and some of his friends started FLGS in 1996. They wanted to give my sister and other girls in my town the chance to play in a league of their own. Over the years the league has grown and really become popular. A year ago my father suddenly passed away at one of my softball tournaments in the summer. My father brought softball into my life through FLGS and he made it a passion that we will always share. I play softball for my father. It has always a dream for me to extend my softball skills and play at a college level, and I know I am ready.
Along with softball and soccer I do many other activities. I am President of a club at my school called RAK, which stands for Random Acts of Kindness. This club means a lot to me and we have over 50 members. The name speaks for itself. We spread kindness throughout our school, we make birthday cards for every single student and faculty in the school, we have a annual welcome breakfast for new students, we make seasonal decorations for the school, we make posters with pull tabs that have compliments people take and pass on, and we do many other things involving charities. RAK is a big part of my life.
Grades are also very important. Right now I have a 3.88 GPA on a 4.5 scale. I get mostly all A’s and A-‘s. One of my favorite classes I take is Child Education. Child Education is a course where we get to become teachers and work in an actual pre-school. I love being able to be so hands on with the children and hopefully someday I can extend my knowledge with Child Education.
Overall I am very hardworking and dedicated to what I set my mind to. I know college softball is the perfect path for me.
