I am a junior and will graduate from Newton Academy in Decatur, MS 2019. I play many sports but softball is my passion and my goal is to pursue it beyond my high school years.
I would like to give you a little bit of information on my softball career thus far. I have played softball since I was 8 years old in summer league. The first year I ever played, I made the all-star team and did every year thereafter. It has always come very natural to me. It didn’t take long until I started tournament ball and I really enjoyed that. I am a team player and consider my team my “other family”. I can and have played literally every position on the field. My coaches have always considered me a utility player although I really love shortstop. I love being in the center of the action and the constant movement! I’m also very smart about the game and where the ball needs to go each play so I believe that helps me to be a better shortstop. My range is really good and I’m able to cover a lot of ground and get rid of the ball really quickly. In addition to that, I’m very good at base running. I have the highest stolen base percentage on my high school team, leading at 34 stolen bases while the entire team all together, including me, has 62. I’m good at a bunt and I’m working on slap hitting as well. If you have access to the GameChanger app, I would love for you to take a look at my stats!
I am a member of the honor society, fbla, and fca. I am an all A student and I am currently in a dual enrollment class at eccc. When I graduate high school next year, I will already have one year of college classes completed. I participate in tennis, basketball, cheerleading and of course, softball. I’ve received many awards from MAIS for basketball and softball. I’ve made the all-district team in basketball and softball for the past few years. Last year, my sophomore year, I was voted best defensive player for our district in softball. For our school I was awarded best offense and MVP in softball as well as MVP in basketball.
Being that I’ve never done this before, I’ve kind of “dropped the ball” on talking to colleges about playing for them so I’m trying to play catch up. If you are interested in me as a part of your program, I would love to talk with you! I would love for you to come watch me play some. Our fastpitch season doesn’t start until August but our school team is planning to play some tournaments this summer as well. Thank you for your consideration! Kelli
