Personal Statement

They say the pitcher’s mound is the loneliest place on earth; I don’t believe that at all.  When I am out on the field, especially on the mound, I truly feel like I am part of a team working together for one ultimate goal.  My name is Samantha (Sami) Hendershott and I am a sophomore at Wayne Valley High School in Wayne, NJ.  Not only am I a pitcher, but also a middle-infielder on our varsity squad and have been since freshman year.  At only 5’2’’ I am a strong player both defensively and offensively. Last year, I started 8 games at pitcher and had a 5-3 record, batted in almost every game and received honors from All-Conference in my freshman season alone.

For some background on me, my first experience with softball was at 10 years old, playing for my hometown recreational league.  From there I went right into travel/club ball at the 12U level.  I’m currently in my third year with the Hudson Valley Titans during fall and summer seasons.  My dedication, passion and positive attitude make me an asset to any team.  I am a hard worker and believe that with constant practice and commitment will come great rewards.

My biggest supporters are my parents and my older sister (who is also my role model).  She played softball in both high school and college and I traveled anywhere I could to watch her play.  Seeing my sister play college softball was one of my proudest moments and is what inspired me want to continue to play ball at a higher level.

I’m interested in staying on the east coast, but am definitely not limiting myself to other options further from home; in the long run it’s whatever school fits me best.  To have the opportunity to play softball at a college level while getting the best education I can get, is all I can ask for.

Thank you for taking the time to read through my profile and view the attached highlights.
