Caitlyn McCarron '13 Recruiting Profile

Hello my name is Caitlyn McCarron and I live in a small city called Dallas, Oregon.  I am 5'9, weigh  160, and I play shortstop. Offensively I'm a lefty power hitter and normally hit in the 4,5, or 6 spots.  I have been playing softball for 12 years, I started out when I was 4 years old.  When I was 11 I started playing ASA with a local team called the HERricanes, which later we became known as the Salem/ Dallas Scorpions.  Now I play for Mic Bowman's Oregon Blaze '94. 
My freshmen year at Dallas High School I was a starter for the Lady Dragon's Varsity Softball Team.  By the end of the season I led the team with the highest batting average, which was a .461, and I beat out a senior for the shortstop position.  Also my freshmen year I was the only freshmen to have played and lettered in volleyball.  My sophomore year I started as a middle hitter on our varsity volleyball team and eventually played as an outside hitter.  Once softball came around I was the Lady Dragon's starting shortstop and in addition I was announced as a co-captain for the season.  At the end of the season I was awarded with 1st team all-league, along with best offense and defense on the team.  My final batting aveage was the team high at a .484. This year I am a junior and I was a starter and lettered on our volleyball team.  Once the end of the season came around I was awarded with best offense on the team, 2nd team all-league, and my team was awarded with the Top Ten GPA's in the state where we tied for 6th.
Ever since I was a little girl I've had aspirations to play softball in college.  To fullfill this dream I strive to do all I can to make myself the best athlete I can be.  I have always been a coachable player and always listen to constructional criticism.  Since I've been a team captain before I know what it's like to be put under pressure and to make decisions.  Being human I know I will make mistakes, but I accepted what I may have done wrong and fixed it.  Due to this pressure I can sculpt myself into a better teammate and athlete.  No matter what I am doing I always give 110% of my effort because in the long run it will always pay off. 
I've grown up in the Northwest and I would love to stay near home.  Anywhere in Washington, California, Arizona, and Utah.  This way my family is near and they are capable of being able to watch me play.  I'm the kind of student, athlete, person that will go to any school except a Junior college.  I want to go to a school that offers the program I'm interested in and provides softball, and some scholarships.  As I prepare myself for college my parents prepare themselves also. 
I would love to major in nursing.  Now that I'm older I deeply desire to give life to children like life was given to me.  Because of my medical background I want to become a children's oncoly nurse.  I know that the nursing program and softball don't always go hand in hand with one another so I want to go to a school where they do.
I want to play softball at the highest level possible because I know I'm just as capable as anyone else.  I want to be able to play my freshmen year, being apart of a program means so much to me that it wouldn't matter what I would be doing as long as I make and impact in some way to the team.  Everybody has a certain role on a team and I want a role.
