Personal Statement
Since I started playing at the age of four, I've been a student of the game. I think strategically on both defense and offense. For example: as a catcher I love the strategy of pitch calling and anticipating a base runner's next move, whereas on offense I like strategic base running and at-bats that require situational hitting.
My leadership skills allow me to confidently and positively run the defense as a catcher. I look for ways to personally connect with each pitcher I catch for. One pitcher may need an inside joke in order to relax when she's nervous or in a bind, whereas another may respond better to being told to "focus, be a warrior and win it".
I highly value a positive team culture. I am looking for a program with a culture in which the coaches have a vision/goal, the team has total buy in for this vision/goal, and the team selflessly embraces the group effort required to meet this vision/goal. Team before Me.
I am looking for a university with a strong liberal arts program, as I am considering a career in Clinical Psychology. I challenge myself academically with accelerated classes, and began this path by taking an Advanced Placement course as a freshman.
