Supported To Supporter
Keani K. Midel
Basketball. Eat. Sleep. Homework. Basketball. Eat. Sleep. Homework. That is practically my entire life, I've played the sport since the age of 7 and never have stopped. I live and breathe basketball. Most girls are forced to play because all their siblings played or that their dad or mom is a coach. Not me. Basketball is my passion, blood, sweat and tears goes into it. Multiple practices a day goes into it. Not only I dedicate my life to this sport but so does my family. My mom, step dad , and sister. Fundraise tons of money for me to attend basketball tournaments in the mainland. Sacrificing everything for me. Thousands and thousands of money, hours and hours of concessions. Taking me to every single practice. It takes a lot of sacrifice. Basketball has changed my life, my attitude upon so many aspects in life. It made me the person I am today, and it continues to make me a better person.
Basketball has taught me many great things, and affected my life. It has opened my eyes. I realize nothing comes easy, nothing will just be handed to me, or given to me. I needed the support, And still do need the support my family gives me because If not for the support, I would not where I am today. My family never did give up on me although we struggle financially and although I fail in some parts of life. I feel very content with life when having support. That is what I want to provide for other people, Support. I want to support others everyday with things that they may be faced with. Letting them know that they have someone like me to support them Is my intention. I hope to support others and help others like my family supported me.
One way I hope to support others is to become a Nurse Practitioner and work alongside a doctor. Some things that a physician assistant does is examine patients, diagnose injuries and illnesses, and provide treatment. I had the opportunity to engage in an internship at Hilo Medical Center and got to have hands-on experience.
Getting great grades is a current goal I have to increase my chances to attend college for free. I am aware that colleges check your GPA and test scores, therefore, getting good grades and testing well on the SAT is extremely important to me. In essence, I have high expectations for myself and plan to persevere to achieve them.
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement and get to know me a little better!
